Approximate location — plotted from published sources, not a site visit, and not a guarantee of access.
Mule Canyon on Cedar Mesa is reached from a spur north of Highway 95 near mile 102 between Blanding and Natural Bridges. The South Fork day hike passes several Ancestral Puebloan structures; about a mile in, five granaries under a streaked overhang form the site known as House on Fire. A separate roadside exhibit with a reconstructed kiva sits on the highway. Day-use permits are required under the Cedar Mesa system.
Cultural sites and artifacts are protected by federal law (ARPA/NHPA) — stay on established routes, touch and remove nothing, and follow the managing agency's and the affiliated tribe's guidance on access.
