Kane Gulch is the main northern entry into Grand Gulch on Cedar Mesa. On SR 261, the Kane Gulch Ranger Station issues and explains day-use and overnight permits for Grand Gulch and related canyons and provides current water and road conditions in season. Trailhead parking just north of the station begins the descent into Grand Gulch, a long canyon system dense with Ancestral Puebloan sites under Bears Ears National Monument management.
Cultural sites and artifacts are protected by federal law (ARPA/NHPA) — stay on established routes, touch and remove nothing, and follow the managing agency's and the affiliated tribe's guidance on access.
