The Merced River Recreation Management Area covers BLM lands along the Merced River downstream from Yosemite between Briceburg and Bagby. Developed campgrounds, whitewater boating, and seasonal wildflowers are the main uses. Reservations are required for the campgrounds along the CA-140 corridor.
Cultural sites and artifacts are protected by federal law (ARPA/NHPA) — stay on established routes, touch and remove nothing, and follow the managing agency's and the affiliated tribe's guidance on access.
