Hornitos grew as a Gold Rush camp on a Mexican-style plaza west of Bear Valley in Mariposa County. Stone walls, the plaza, and remnants tied to Domingo Ghirardelli’s store and Wells Fargo-era commerce remain along county roads. It was the first incorporated town in Mariposa County; a state historical landmark marks the site.
