Galen Clark built a bridge over the South Fork Merced at Wawona in 1857. The Washburn family later covered it in a Vermont style. All early Yosemite-bound stage traffic through Wawona crossed here. The restored span anchors the Yosemite History Center collection of relocated historic buildings.
