Camp 4 sits on the north side of Yosemite Valley along Northside Drive and has long been the walk-in base for climbers on El Capitan and nearby walls. The National Park Service operates it as a first-come campground with a lottery in peak season. Ordinary as lodging, the site carries a dense published record of mid-20th-century climbing history.
