Roughly 187,000 acres of Mojave desert stretch between Joshua Tree and Mojave Trails country east of Twentynine Palms. The Sheep Hole and Calumet mountains rise above bajadas and dry washes; wilderness designation bars motor vehicles inside the boundary. Southern access parallels CA-62. Maps and conditions come from the BLM Needles Field Office.
