South of Newberry Springs between Lucerne Valley and Barstow, the Rodman Mountains Wilderness protects a block of volcanic Mojave uplands. The BLM notes the range as one of a handful of core raptor breeding areas in the California Desert, with golden eagles and prairie falcons present. Access is from dirt roads including Camp Rock Road; travel inside the wilderness is non-motorized. The unit is managed with nearby Newberry Mountains wilderness lands.
Cultural sites and artifacts are protected by federal law (ARPA/NHPA) — stay on established routes, touch and remove nothing, and follow the managing agency's and the affiliated tribe's guidance on access.
