Far-northeastern Nevada mining town on the Owyhee River, founded 1869 as Cope after placer and lode discoveries, renamed Mountain City the same year. Boom-era population in the hundreds to ~1,000 with saloons, hotels, and stages; later copper revivals kept a small community alive. Today a quiet living historic town and crossroads for the Mountain City / Rio Tinto mining country and routes toward Jarbidge and the Idaho line.
