Machesna Mountain Wilderness covers roughly 20,000 acres of chaparral, oak woodland, and conifer forest about twenty-five miles from San Luis Obispo. Elevations rise from about 1,600 feet to the 4,063-foot summit of Machesna Mountain. Los Padres National Forest manages the unit with adjacent BLM acreage; trail access is limited through rugged terrain.
