Hidden Splendor Trailhead marks the old Hidden Splendor uranium camp and backcountry airstrip on the south side of the San Rafael Swell. Mine remnants remain, but most visitors use the site as the south access to Muddy Creek and the Chute, a long canyon walk that can run 15 miles trailhead to trailhead. Dispersed camping is common on the mesa.
Cultural sites and artifacts are protected by federal law (ARPA/NHPA) — stay on established routes, touch and remove nothing, and follow the managing agency's and the affiliated tribe's guidance on access.
