First Washoe County seat (1861–1871) on the north shore of Washoe Lake, founded 1860 as a lumber and ore-milling camp serving the Comstock. Once lined with mills, stores, a courthouse, and newspapers; declined after the V&T Railroad and the county-seat move to Reno left stone and foundation ruins amid modern Washoe Valley development.
