An unpaved freight road, Jumbo Grade climbs from the east shore of Washoe Lake toward Virginia City. Late-nineteenth-century mule teams hauled Comstock-bound goods over this route; the name comes from the Jumbo Mine and related camps. The BLM maintains a day-use trailhead with restrooms and interpretive information. The roughly eight-mile one-way track crosses creeks, passes mining-camp remnants, and connects OHV and high-clearance travel between Washoe Valley and the Virginia City area.
Cultural sites and artifacts are protected by federal law (ARPA/NHPA) — stay on established routes, touch and remove nothing, and follow the managing agency's and the affiliated tribe's guidance on access.
