Historic geothermal field south of Reno named for steam columns that early travelers likened to a steamboat. Rhyolite domes, sinter, fumaroles, and mineral springs supported 19th-century spas and boxing camps; a commercial mineral spa still operates, Ormat geothermal plants occupy part of the field, and Nevada Historical Marker #198 stands along US-395 Alt.
