South Tufa Area (Mono Lake)

Mono County, CA

Coordinate verified

Primary public shoreline of Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve: calcium-carbonate tufa towers rising from the hypersaline alkaline lake on the east side of the Sierra. A short interpretive loop from the South Tufa parking area is the classic close-up of the towers, brine shrimp, alkali flies, and migratory bird habitat that make the Mono Basin a desert-edge landmark.
