In west-central New Mexico, Sierra de las Cañas Wilderness Study Area is a rugged desert mountain block of sheer rock escarpments, ridges, mesas, and narrow canyons. Roads from the Escondida exit on I-25 north of Socorro approach the northwestern border. Recreation is primitive; no developed facilities.
