Sand Mountain is a lone ~600-foot dune of Lake Lahontan beach sand rising from the flats southeast of Fallon. On still dry days avalanching sand can boom or hum—the classic 'singing dune' effect. BLM manages the recreation area along U.S. 50 with OHV use on the west side; check current access and pass rules before you go.
