Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness Area

Kane County, UT

Approximate location — plotted from published sources, not a site visit, and not a guarantee of access.

The Paria Canyon–Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness straddles the Utah–Arizona line around the Paria River and the Vermilion Cliffs escarpment. Buckskin Gulch, one of the longest slot canyons in the Southwest, lies inside the wilderness, as do multi-day Paria River backpacking routes and the Coyote Buttes permit areas. BLM limits overnight use and requires permits for day use in the canyons. The Wave and Coyote Buttes South have separate lotteries.
