Palo Verde Mountains Wilderness covers about 30,500 acres of low desert mountains southwest of Blythe. Dry washes hold palo verde, mesquite, and ironwood; Thumb Peak and Flat Top buttes are the main landmarks. Permanent water pockets support wildlife in an otherwise arid range.
