Owens Peak (over 8,400 feet) anchors Owens Peak Wilderness, a high point of the southern Sierra crest in this sector. Short Canyon and other east-side canyons off US 395 lead into granite slopes and spring-fed drainages. BLM also lists access from Canebrake Road on the south.
