Semi-ghost mining settlement in the Jarilla Mountains and Tularosa Basin on U.S. 54 between El Paso and Alamogordo. Founded in 1905 as Jarilla Junction and renamed Orogrande in 1906 during a short gold rush that briefly pushed population toward two thousand. A handful of residents remain; surrounding district mines on BLM and Fort Bliss-adjacent land stay off-limits where posted or fenced.
