Mattole Campground sits where the Mattole River meets the Pacific at the north end of the King Range National Conservation Area. Sites lie behind dunes a short walk from the beach and form the usual northern trailhead for the Lost Coast Trail. Elephant seals haul out on nearby beaches seasonally. The road in from Petrolia is narrow and remote.
