Kelso Dunes Wilderness covers more than 140,000 acres of Mojave Desert in San Bernardino County south and west of Mojave National Preserve. The unit includes sand sheets, basalt, and desert mountains near Ludlow and the Kelbaker corridor. The better-known Kelso Dunes day-hike area is inside the preserve to the north; this wilderness is the larger undeveloped block managed by BLM.
