Approximate location — plotted from published sources, not a site visit, and not a guarantee of access.
Roughly 68,000 acres of the Kaibab Plateau's west flank north of Grand Canyon form Kanab Creek Wilderness, managed jointly by the Kaibab National Forest and BLM. More than 90 miles of primitive trail, including routes from Sowats Point and Jumpup, drop into a canyon system that feeds the Colorado River. Water is scarce outside the main creek; summer temperatures in the lower canyon are extreme.
Cultural sites and artifacts are protected by federal law (ARPA/NHPA) — stay on established routes, touch and remove nothing, and follow the managing agency's and the affiliated tribe's guidance on access.
