The largest natural arch in Canyonlands National Park stands in Cedar Mesa Sandstone deep in Salt Creek Canyon in the Needles District. Reaching it requires a long backpacking trip on the Salt Creek and Angel Arch trails—on the order of twenty-five to thirty miles round trip from the usual trailheads—with permits for designated campsites and at-large zones. Vehicle access up Salt Creek to near the arch has been closed for years; the arch is a foot destination only.
