NPS national monument protecting Ice Age groundwater-discharge deposits of the Las Vegas Formation in the Upper Las Vegas Wash. Mammoth, camel, horse, dire wolf, and other Pleistocene fossils document a wetter Mojave landscape; open desert washes and ridges offer self-guided walking while the park is still in early development.
