Potrillo Mountains Wilderness covers a broad stretch of the Potrillo volcanic field in southern Doña Ana County. Cinder cones, lava, and desert grassland dominate. Access is from NM Highway 9 and county roads north of the highway. Interior travel is cross-country without maintained trails.
