Pixley National Wildlife Refuge covers about 6,900 acres of southern San Joaquin Valley grassland and seasonal wetlands north of Bakersfield. Established in 1959 for migratory birds, it holds some of the last significant valley grassland habitat in the region. A short interpretive trail and photo spots are available during open hours. There is no entrance fee.
