USFWS wetland refuge on the southern San Joaquin Valley floor west of Delano, the centerpiece of the Kern National Wildlife Refuge Complex. Restored marsh, seasonal wetlands, and remnant San Joaquin Desert uplands support wintering waterfowl, shorebirds, and several endangered species. A year-round ~6-mile gravel Loop Road auto tour, observation decks, and designated parking open sunrise to sunset (closed to non-hunters Wednesdays and Saturdays October–January).
