Late-1800s silver and gold boomtown tucked in Silver Creek Canyon on the edge of the Gila Wilderness. Once among the wildest camps in the Southwest (peak population in the thousands), it retains wooden and adobe storefronts, a seasonal museum and gallery, and a historic hillside cemetery up Graveyard Gulch. Public approach via steep, winding NM 159 (Bursum Road) east of Alma/Glenwood.
