Medicine Lake Recreation Area sits at about 6,770 feet inside the summit caldera of Medicine Lake Volcano on the Modoc Plateau. The lake occupies part of a 4-by-7-mile depression. Short hikes reach adjacent lava flows; Glass Mountain and Burnt Lava Flow geologic areas are within a short drive. Campgrounds and boat access are the developed base for the shield volcano’s Holocene flows.
