The La Grange (Oregon Mountain) claims operated from the 1860s and became California's largest hydraulic gold mine after 1892 investment in long ditches from Stuart's Fork. Work continued into the 1910s. A highway pullout and landmark plaque on State Route 299 west of Weaverville mark the scarred slopes and remaining equipment.
