Whiskeytown Falls

Shasta County, CA

Approximate location — plotted from published sources, not a site visit, and not a guarantee of access.

Whiskeytown Falls is a three-tier cascade about 220 feet high on the East Fork of Crystal Creek in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. Long known to Wintu people and later kept off park maps, the falls were relocated by NPS staff from a 1950s logging map in 2004 and opened to the public after trail construction. The James K. Carr Trail is about 3.4 miles round trip with roughly 750 feet of gain through mixed conifer forest to a base viewpoint and a rock staircase to a middle overlook.
