La Cueva is a 2,200-acre BLM trail system in the limestone foothills of the Guadalupes at the edge of Carlsbad. More than fifteen miles of maintained singletrack serve hikers, mountain bikers, and riders through Chihuahuan Desert cactus and rolling hills. The trailhead has been shifted to McKittrick Road while a relief route is built through the old parking area.
Cultural sites and artifacts are protected by federal law (ARPA/NHPA) — stay on established routes, touch and remove nothing, and follow the managing agency's and the affiliated tribe's guidance on access.
