New Mexico State Park on the Pecos River reservoir north of Carlsbad, opened in 1989 after Brantley Dam replaced older McMillan storage. Rolling southeastern grasslands meet the Guadalupe foothills; the lake is a waterfowl corridor with boating, fishing, hiking, and dark-sky camping at ~3,295 ft.
