Harquahala Mountains Wilderness covers a desert mountain range west of Phoenix and north of Interstate 10. Harquahala Peak is reached by a steep, winding high-clearance Backcountry Byway on the south side; jeep trails also approach the north boundary from U.S. 60. The range rises well above the surrounding basin with desert scrub and rocky ridgelines.
