Northwest of Prescott, Granite Mountain Wilderness rises above Granite Basin—a compact forest wilderness built around a massive granite massif. The Metate Trailhead and Granite Mountain Trail lead to the 7,626-foot summit with views across central Arizona. Day hiking and rock climbing on the granite are the main uses.
