Tiny railroad and desert-gateway town at the edge of the Black Rock Desert—founded with the Western Pacific line, home to the National Register Gerlach Water Tower (1909), Bruno’s Country Club, Guru Road folk art, and the Friends of Black Rock–High Rock visitor center. Basecamp for the playa, High Rock Canyon, and regional hot springs; host community for Burning Man logistics (the event itself is not a tourist drop-in).
