Fort Harmony was an adobe fort and early Washington County settlement founded in the 1850s and associated with John D. Lee and the Southern Indian Mission. Heavy rains in the Great Flood of 1862 melted the thick adobe walls and forced abandonment; refugees founded New Harmony and Kanarraville. Above-ground adobe is gone; a monument and interpretive markers mark the NRHP site beside modern New Harmony.
