Lava flows, cinder cones, and sandstone bluffs south of Grants make up El Malpais National Conservation Area. NM Highways 117 and 53 reach a BLM ranger station, developed recreation sites, the Cebolla and West Malpais wilderness units, and trailheads including Hole-in-the-Wall and El Calderon. The NCA adjoins El Malpais National Monument.
