NPS day-use trailhead on NM 53 in El Malpais National Monument sampling the monument’s volcanic suite: lava-tube entrances (including Bat Cave), the El Calderon cinder cone (erupted ~30,000–60,000 years ago), and the younger Twin Craters lava flow. A figure-8 loop of up to ~4.8 miles links forested trail, cone rim, and optional primitive-road shortcut; picnic tables and vault toilets at the parking lot.
