Desolation and Gray Canyons make an 84-mile permitted float on the Green River between Sand Wash and Swasey’s Beach/Nefertiti in eastern Utah. Tall sedimentary walls, side canyons, and Class II–III rapids shape the run. BLM requires a year-round permit, a peak-season lottery on Recreation.gov, and trip rules covering group size and waste.
Cultural sites and artifacts are protected by federal law (ARPA/NHPA) — stay on established routes, touch and remove nothing, and follow the managing agency's and the affiliated tribe's guidance on access.
