Multiple-dome concrete dam completed in 1928 on the Gila River, named for President Calvin Coolidge and built to store irrigation water for the San Carlos Project. The dam and San Carlos Lake shoreline are a classic desert-engineering stop between Globe and Safford, with dramatic canyon walls and long views across the reservoir when full.
