Gold-mining center for the Congress Mine (discovered 1884; major production into the 1930s) west of Wickenburg. The Santa Fe, Prescott and Phoenix Railway served Congress Junction; the modern CDP of roughly 1,800 people sits on the old junction while little remains at the original mine camp. Historic cemetery and mining-era landscape still mark the district—stay off shafts and posted claims.
