Chute Canyon cuts through the San Rafael Reef west of Highway 24 near Goblin Valley. The BLM trailhead on Behind the Reef Road is the usual start for a sandy canyon walk that can be combined with Crack Canyon loops. Walls rise high once the route enters the reef. No permit is required for day hiking.
Cultural sites and artifacts are protected by federal law (ARPA/NHPA) — stay on established routes, touch and remove nothing, and follow the managing agency's and the affiliated tribe's guidance on access.
