Ghost Town

Carrara

Nye County, NV

Coordinate unverified

A marble quarry town 9 miles south of Beatty — Nevada's desert version of its Italian namesake. The American Carrara Marble Company laid out the townsite in 1911-1913, complete with a railroad to the quarry, hotel, and the unusual luxury of a town fountain. The marble proved too fractured and the company folded by 1917. Hotel slabs, the old fountain base, and railroad grades remain. Source: ghosttowns.com.
