On the west end of the Hastings Cutoff across the Great Salt Lake Desert, Donner–Reed Pass sits on the last dry miles before Donner Spring. BLM and the National Park Service interpret this California National Historic Trail segment as part of the 1846 Donner-Reed ordeal. Remote desert roads in the Silver Island Mountains area reach the pass.
