New Mexico’s first state park (1933): a string of deep sinkhole lakes along a gypsum/karst escarpment southeast of Roswell. Lea Lake offers swimming and non-motorized boating; other sinks (Inkwell, Figure Eight, Cottonwood) are clear, spring-fed windows into the Pecos Valley aquifer. Wetlands boardwalk, bluff trails, and scuba at Lea make it a rare water-focused Chihuahuan Desert stop.
