About 14,600 acres at the north end of the Sacramento Mountains, roughly 18 miles west of Needles, make up Bigelow Cholla Garden Wilderness. Dark volcanic slopes carry dense stands of Bigelow (teddy-bear) cholla that give the unit its name. Interstate 40 runs along the northern boundary; foot travel only inside the wilderness.
