1873–1890s mill town built by the Northern Belle Mining Company to process Candelaria silver ore. Twin 20-stamp mills (Lower 1875, Upper 1876), newspaper, and ~500 residents at the 1882 Carson & Colorado Railroad peak; later cyanide rework of tailings (1914–17). Stone mill foundations remain on the desert flats south of Candelaria.
